Game Launch Postmortem
Yes! The game is finally out!
Rejoice with me! And, above all, I hope you will enjoy Emerald Wasp!
Before I dwell into the postmortem, the important stuff first!
THE GAME NOW
At the moment Emerald Wasp has eight different endings, one of which is the canon ending to me, and some of which have variations depending on your choices during gameplay. In the walkthrough you will find the indications to solve all the puzzles, but there are still things I want you to discover for yourselves. The only bugs you’re supposed to encounter are wasps: game was tested, but if you encounter any bugs please report them so I can fix them asap! Any help is welcomed, gamedev is constant learning. I also subjected the game for sensitivity reading due to the topics that are touched in it.
POSTMORTEM
Last year in particular was so busy for me that it turned Emerald Wasp from a relatively short project to a long development, but I didn't really have a choice: I was both working as a commuter and writing the master degree thesis, so the development of the game took the backseat. For this I had to reduce the scope of the game and some of the features I had in mind from the start were resized or cut, but I made my best to provide a good chunk of content for you to explore and I polished that. And for the cut content… I might add it back in the future, I still have the events saved!
Another new thing for me was showing part of the development weekly on Twitter. Having feedback on my insecurities or encouragement in bad periods of my life was vital to Emerald Wasp. Despite the bad moments, the ups overweighted them by miles: it's difficult for me to explain how much it means to me that so many people play my games, read my stories, and even appreciate it. And also the people I know irl started discovering I'm a hobbyist gamedev.
I tried to do some different things too, I hope you will appreciate them!
Thank you for following the development of the game and for reading my post!
I hope you will enjoy the game and most importantly that you have fun!
